Well pump cost estimator
Pick the job and your well's depth. Wellborne shows a published range only where the evidence supports one; for everything else, it explains what sets the price.
Well pump replacement
$900 to $2,500
Covers: Pump and motor, installation, and inspection of pipe, cable and valves while the pump is out.
- A national budgeting range for a pump and its installation, not a quote.
- Most Suffolk wells are deep (average reported depth 371 ft), which pushes jobs toward the top of the range.
Separate items:
- Replacement pipe, wire or check valves found worn: priced as found
- Bacteria test after disinfection: laboratory fee
Permit: No VDH well permit is needed for this work (12VAC5-630-220).
A planning figure, not a quote. Your price is set after testing at the well.
How the estimator works
The pump replacement range is a national budgeting range for a pump and its installation, drawn from published national cost guides. It is not a Suffolk average and not a quote. Because most Suffolk wells are deep (an average reported depth of 371 feet in a Virginia Cooperative Extension clinic), deep jobs are shown as open-ended at the top. Permit figures come from the Virginia Department of Health fee regulation (12VAC5-620). The estimator does not scale prices by depth or horsepower, because no reliable public figure supports that.
